Oracle Reports R6: Enhance Reports

Course Overview

This course is the second in a three-part Oracle Reports series that is based on Oracle Reports Release 6. The goal of this course is to enable developers to construct complex reports and charts using Oracle Reports. This course introduces the learner to the key features of the Data Model editor, Layout Model objects and their properties. The course also enables the learner to enhance matrix reports by modifying the objects in Data Model editor and the Layout Model editor. This course is based on Oracle's ILT course, Oracle Developer: Build Reports.

In addition, participants should have taken the first part in this series Oracle Reports: Reports Fundamentals (course 62221).

Unit 1: Data Model
Duration: 1 - 2 Hour(s)
  • Match the Data Model objects with their characteristics.
  • Change the structure of a group using the Data Wizard.
  • Identify the methods of ordering data in a group.
  • Create a group filter by using the Property Palette dialog box.
  • Add new data to a report by creating a query using the Data Wizard.
  • Match Oracle8 object columns and ref columns with their representation in reports.
  • Create an external query by using the Object Navigator.
  • Create ref queries by using the ref cursor query tool.
  • Modify the properties of a query using Property Palette option in the Data Model.
  • Create a data link between objects by using the link tool in the Data Model.
  • Modify the database column to display the contents of a file by using the property palette.
  • Identify the properties of a summary column.
  • Create a formula column using the tool palette in the Data Model.
  • Identify the uses of placeholder column.
Unit 2: Layout Model
Duration: 1 - 2 Hour(s)
  • Identify the properties of the Layout Model sections.
  • Match the Layout Model views with their properties.
  • Create a default layout for a report by using the Report Wizard.
  • Sequence the steps to create a default layout for a section of the report by using the Report Wizard.
  • Display the layout view for a report section by using the section option.
  • Apply conditional formatting to a layout object by using the Format option.
  • Set properties for a report section by using the Property Palette.
  • Add a new layout section to a report without overriding existing layouts by using the Report Wizard.
  • Identify the situations in which layout mode buttons are used to facilitate layout modifications.
  • Move a child object outside its enclosing parent object by using the Confine Mode button.
Unit 3: Layout Object Properties

  • Create a link file to display file contents in the Layout Model by using the tool palette.
  • Create a chart using the Chart Wizard in the Layout Model.
  • Embed an existing chart in the Layout Model using the tool palette.
  • Display a multimedia file using a button.
  • Match the pagination properties with their functions.
  • Match the print properties with their functions.
  • Identify the uses of field properties.
  • Identify functions of the repeating frame properties.
Unit 4: Matrix Report Enhancements
Duration: 2 Hour(s)
  • Match the matrix structure with the relevant Data Model objects.
  • Match the matrix structure with the relevant the Layout Model objects.
  • Identify the product order values to be set for creating matrix summaries in a given situation.
  • Create a cross product group to build a nested matrix using the tool palette.
  • Create a nested matrix summary for a report by using the Report Wizard.
