Oracle Reports R6: Report Fundamentals

Course Overview

This course is the first in a three-part Oracle Report Builder series that is based on Oracle Reports Release 6. This course introduces the learner to, the key features of Report Builder, steps involved in building a standard tabular report and report layout styles. In addition, this course will help participants learn how to use the Live Previewer, store reports, and migrate report definitions from Developer/2000 Release 1 to Oracle Reports Release 6. This course is based on Oracle's ILT course, Oracle Developer: Build Reports.

  • Identify the features and components of Report Builder.
  • Identify standard report design styles.
  • Label the options in the Runtime Previewer.
  • Run a report in Oracle Developer.
  • Match a report's executable filenames, the Report Builder module types, the Report editor views, the different categories of objects available in a Report Module with their descriptions.
  • Create a report using Report Wizard.
  • Invoke the Reentrant wizard.
  • Create Form Like, Break, Mailing Label, and Matrix types of reports using the reentrant Report Wizard.
  • Modify reports in Live Previewer.
  • Match report file types and their description.
  • Match report file types with their portability limitations.
  • Convert a full report definition (.rdf) file to an executable report (.rep) file.
  • Document a report using Report Builder.
  • Identify the tasks to migrate a report from Developer/2000 Release 1.

Unit 1: Oracle Developer Report Builder
Duration: 1.5 - 2 Hour(s)
  • Match the components of Oracle Developer with the tasks that they enable.
  • Select the common features of Oracle Developer components.
  • Identify the features of Oracle Toolkit and Oracle multimedia.
  • Identify the options of the Oracle Developer main menu.
  • Set preferences to customize a Oracle Developer session by using the Preferences dialog box.
  • Identify the Oracle Developer environment variables.
  • Match the report design styles with their graphical representations.
  • Identify the guidelines for efficiently designing a report.
  • Run a report.
  • Locate the destination options for viewing the report output.
  • Label the options available in the Previewer.
  • View large pages in the Previewer window by splitting a page horizontally or vertically.
Unit 2: Building a Standard Tabular Report
Duration: 1.5 - 2 Hour(s)
  • Identify the report executable files with their functions.
  • Identify the Report Builder module types.
  • Match the Report Editor views with their uses.
  • Identify the different object categories available in a Report Module.
  • Match the Data Model objects with their uses.
  • Match the Layout Model objects with their descriptions.
  • Identify the functions of the Parameter Form objects.
  • Identify the interrelationship among the objects in the Report Edit or views.
  • Build a standard tabular report by using the Report Wizard.
  • Create a query by using the Query Builder in the Report Wizard.
  • Create an Express Query.
  • Select the fields to be displayed from a list of available fields by using the Report Wizard.
  • Create a summary by using the Report Wizard.
  • Edit a label by using the Report Wizard.
  • Select a template from a list of predefined templates by using the Report Wizard.
  • View a report created by using the Report Wizard in the Live Previewer.
Unit 3: Building Additional Report Layout Styles

  • Identify the features of a Form Like report.
  • Create a Group Left report from an existing report by using the reentrant Report Wizard.
  • Create a Mailing Label report from an existing report by using the reentrant Report Wizard.
  • Create a Matrix report from an existing report by using the reentrant Report Wizard.
Unit 4: Using the Live Previewer

  • Identify the features of the Live Previewer.
  • Align columns in the Live Previewer.
  • Set a specified format mask on a numeric field in the Live Previewer.
  • Manipulate objects in the Live Previewer.
  • Edit boilerplate text in the Live Previewer.
  • Modify visual attributes in the Live Previewer.
  • Create conditional formats in the Live Previewer.
  • Insert page numbers to a report in the Live Previewer.
  • Insert the current date and time in a given report in the Live Previewer.
Unit 5: Report Storage Methods
Duration: 1 Hour(s)
  • Identify the situations in which a Report Builder module needs to be saved to a database.
  • Match types of report files with their descriptions.
  • Convert an .rdf file to a .rep file by using the conversion utility.
  • Match the types of report files with their portability features.
  • Sequence the order in which Oracle Developer searches for a file referenced in Report Builder.
  • Document a report by using Report Builder.
  • Identify the tasks to migrate report definitions from Developer/2000 Release 1 to Oracle Developer Release 6.
