Control Of Expiry Date For
Inspection
Question:
Explain the details concerning the control of expiry date for incoming
raw materials and also for the finished goods. How is the expiry of the
raw material or a finished good controlled and monitored in SAP QM? What
are the transaction codes involved? Does MM01 T-code have any relevance
for expiry date? How will the system respond if a material got expired?
Ans:
Follows these steps:
1) MM02 you have to maintain the min shelf life and maximum
shelf life.
2) This makes manufacturing date should be entered mandatorily in the
MIGO
3) System also clearly the screens material with min shelf life lesser
than what is maintained.
4) Once GR is done for batch managed the shelf life is updated in the
batch. MSC2N
5) Otherwise at any point of time you can check the remaining shelf
life using MB5M
6) Once the material reaches near to the shelf life, you can either
schedule a program QA05, QA07 which will move the expired
material to block, and if batch managed it will make the batch to restricted.
7) If you are using recurring inspection expiry period has more relevance.
Notes:
For re-validation of material based on self life expiry date, activate
09 inspection type in material master, so based on inspection interval/
self life expiry date system will post stock again in QI & create inspection
lot with ref to type "09".
There is no direct connection between the expiry date and the Re-validation
inspection date.
Expiry Date:
There is a field called "Total shelf life" in the Plant Data \ Stro1
View of material master. That decides the Shelf life Expiry date for
the Batch of the material. Now, for Incoming material the shelf life
get calculated from the Value we feed in the Mfg Date in GR (MIGO).
e.g. If there is 36 MON is maintained in the "Total shelf life" in Plant
Data \ Stro1 view of material master and at the other hand we enter
the mfg date in the GR (MIGO) as 30.01.2099 then system will add
36 MON in this date, calculate the Shelf life as 29.07.2099 and post it
to the Batch. At the same moment the batch is triggered with Posting MIGO
document. Now this same date will go to the field "Shelf Life Exp.
Date 1" of the batch (MSC3N). The same thing happens to the
Finished product also it, here the mfg date is supposed to be entered at
GR or Auto GR against the Order.
When the material reaches its shelf life you can run QA05 or
you can schedule it through QA07. If the material is not batch managed
the material is moved to blocked otherwise the batch is restricted. Once
moved to block you can move the material back to quality activating 08
inspection. Lot will be created and then you can do the revalidation of
the shelf life material and then you can move the stock to either unrestricted
if the testing seems ok or otherwise scrap.
