HP -UX Administration Training Curriculum

The HP-UX Administration curriculum covers basic user and system administration in the HP/UX environment. It focuses on the common skills that an administrator will perform and how they are handled in this flavor of Unix. Students will learn about network connections and services. HP-UX Part 1: Basic Administration

The first course in the HP/UX implementation track covers basic user and system administration in the HP/UX environment. It focuses on the common skills that an administrator will perform and how they are handled in this flavor of Unix.

Unit 1: Installation and Startup 2 - 3 hours

Unit 2: System Administration 2 - 3 hours

• Add a user by using System Administration Manager (SAM). • Modify user settings by using System Administration Manager (SAM). • Add users with the command-line interface. • Modify user settings with the command-line interface. • Identify the location of user setup and login files. • Create groups with the System Administrator Manager (SAM). • Manage groups with the command-line interface. • Identify the features of the Logical Volume Manager (LVM). • Identify the types of file systems supported by HP-UX. • Identify the command-line interface commands that can be used to manage a file system. • Identify the function of System Administrator Manager (SAM) in file system management. • Mount a file system. • Modify a mount configuration. • Identify the features of disk mirroring within the Logical Volume Manager (LVM). • Set up a new hard disk by using SAM. • Identify the features of Unix file permissions. • Identify the features of access control lists (ACLs). • Identify the guidelines for backup scheduling. • Identify the considerations involved in selecting backup media. • Identify the command-line interface backup commands available in HP_UX. • Perform a backup with System Administrator Manager (SAM) • Restore files from a backup with System Administration Manager (SAM). • Identify the guidelines for recovering from a disaster.

• Control processes using System Administration Manager (SAM). • Schedule processes by using System Administration Manager (SAM). • Identify the command-line interface (CLI) commands that can be used to manage processes. • Identify the features of System Log Files in System Administration Manager (SAM). • Identify the methods of determining how system resources are used. • Identify the CLI performance monitoring commands. • Identify optimal system performance parameters. • Identify the features of device files and drivers on HP-UX. • Identify the features of device configurations in HP-UX. • Identify the features of the GlancePlus performance monitoring tool. • Tune the kernel parameters.

HP-UX Part 2: Network Administration

In this course, you will learn about printers and terminals in a HP-UX system. You will also learn about network connections and services.
